Seated Bubbha

Seated Buddha
Northern Thiland: 15th - early 16th century
Gold, ruby, and diamond
Gift of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Clark, 1966.31

The Buddha in this seated pose show his dominance over evil and ignorance by suppressing ignorance with the gesture of his hand.

  1. The seated Buddha's are my favorite type of sculptures. I like to first try to interpret it for myself and imagine the story behind them, then I will read about it. The golds they use are very appealing to me.
